In this test, a 10"x6"x12' reinforced concrete beam was tested to failure in a four point loading configuration. After failure of the control beam it was repaired with FiberBond epoxy repair system and re-tested.
The damaged concrete beam was prepared as per the FiberBond Repair Manual.
The surface was sandblasted and cleaned, and the cracks were filled with epoxy resin. Two layers of FiberBond carbon fiber were applied and allowed to cure for seven days at ambient temperature total thickness of materials <0.020".
The repaired beam was then re-tested and reached 23.97 kips before failing. The failure mode was progressive and cohesive no adhesive bond failure was observed and the reinforcing steel was still intact. The test clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of FiberBond for seismic and structural upgrading of any structure.
