A recently completed project demonstrates the effectiveness of the Fiber-Bond Composite strengthening system for corrosion protection. This facility has high levels of Muriatic acid present as both fumes and splashed liquid. The acid caused severe deterioration to the concrete columns. Edge Structural Composites Fiber-Bond E-Glass/Epoxy system was chosen to protect the columns because of its superior resistance to chemical attack. The columns were first repaired with new polymer concrete and allowed to cure for 28 days. They were then prepared as per Edge system specs. The primer was then applied and allowed to penetrate the substrate. Fiber-Bond E-Glass was wetted out and applied by hand to the columns and smoothed out. After a 48hr cure the facility was back in operation.
